How to use the finder
Start with what you won't compromise on: the body style and whether you need all-wheel drive. Then filter by powertrain — a hybrid pays off if you drive a lot in town, an EV if you can charge at home. Finally, sort by what matters most to you: fuel economy, fuel cost, safety rating or the fewest recalls and complaints.
"Most researched" sorts by recent views of each model's Wikipedia article, a signal of public interest. "Fewest recalls & complaints" adds up recall campaigns and complaints for the latest year, so brand-new models can look better than they are simply because they haven't been on the road long.
The checkboxes are strict: "No recalls" drops any model with even one campaign in its latest year, and "5-star NHTSA overall" shows only models already tested under the current program.
Nothing you choose here is saved or sent anywhere; the filtering happens in your browser.
Results show the newest model year of every model still on sale. Open any of them to see its trims, horsepower, safety equipment, pros and cons, and the best years if you're buying used. Once you have two or three candidates, compare their fuel costs and check that they fit your garage with our tools.
Data: EPA fuel economy, NHTSA ratings, recalls and complaints, Transport Canada dimensions. Prices are not included.
